🌟 Complement Patterns in English Grammar

Complement (C) ဆိုတာ Verb ကိုပြီးပြည့်စုံအောင် အဓိပ္ပါယ်ပံ့ပိုးပေးတဲ့ စကားစု/ဝါကျစု ဖြစ်ပါတယ်။
Verb တစ်လုံးချင်း အလိုက် လိုအပ်တဲ့ Pattern မတူသလို
အဓိပ္ပါယ်ကလည်း gerund / infinitive ပေါ်မူတည်ပြီး ပြောင်းလဲနိုင်ပါတယ်။

🔶 (1) Verb + Gerund (V-ing)

➡️ Subject က အယူအဆ၊ အတွေ့အကြုံ၊ ဖြစ်ပျက်ပြီးသားကိစ္စ ကို ပြောပြတဲ့အခါ V-ing သုံးတယ်။

✔ Pattern

V + V-ing

✔ Examples

She admitted cheating on the final exam.

They avoided making any direct comments.

The professor suggested revising the introduction section.

He denied knowing anything about the incident.

🔶 (2) Verb + To-Infinitive

➡️ Subject က လုပ်ပလိုက်ချင်တယ်၊ ရည်ရွယ်တယ်၊ အနာဂတ်အတွက် လုပ်ဆောင်မယ် လို့ ဆိုရင် to-infinitive သုံးတယ်။

✔ Pattern

V + to-infinitive

✔ Examples

She decided to postpone the seminar.

The team planned to redesign the entire system.

He failed to meet the deadline.

We hope to achieve better results.

🔶 (3) Verb + Gerund / To-Infinitive (Different Meaning!)

➡️ Verb တချို့မှာ pattern နှစ်မျိုးလုံးသုံးလို့ရပေမဲ့ အဓိပ္ပါယ်က မတူဘူး။

✔ Examples

remember doing = အတိတ်လုပ်ခဲ့တာကို မမေ့ဘဲ သတိရ
remember to do = လုပ်ရန် မမေ့အောင် သတိထား

stop doing = လုပ်နေရာက ရပ်လိုက်သည်
stop to do = တစ်ခုလုပ်ဖို့အတွက် ရပ်ချင်တဲ့ရည်ရွယ်ချက်

try doing = စမ်းကြည့်
try to do = ကြိုးစားလုပ်

🔶 (4) Verb + Object + To-Infinitive

➡️ Listener / Receiver ပါရင် ဒီ Pattern သုံးတယ်
(e.g. advise, tell, allow, persuade)

✔ Pattern

V + O + to-infinitive

✔ Examples

She advised me to revise the conclusion.

They encouraged the students to participate actively.

The director persuaded him to stay longer.

🔶 (5) Verb + That-Clause

➡️ ဒေတာ/အယူအဆ/ထင်မြင်ချက်/အကြံပြုချက်ကို သဘောထားအနေနဲ့ ပြန်ပြတဲ့အခါ that-clause သုံးတယ်။

✔ Pattern

V + that + clause

✔ Examples

She explained that the figures were inaccurate.

They claimed that the project was complete.

He mentioned that additional support was needed.

🔶 (6) Verb + That + Base Verb (Subjunctive)

➡️ Suggestion / Recommendation / Necessity ကို ဖေါ်ပြတဲ့ reporting verbs
➡️ (should) + base verb (should မသုံးလည်း base verb)

✔ Examples

The committee recommended that the policy be revised.

She insisted that he attend the meeting.

They proposed that the results be re-evaluated.

🔶 (7) Verbs of Suggestion + Gerund

➡️ Subject က ကိုယ်တိုင် မလုပ်ဘူး
➡️ သဘောထားပြောခြင်း (suggest, recommend, advise (no object!), consider…)

✔ Pattern

V + V-ing

✔ Examples

The chairperson suggested adjusting the timeline.

The analyst recommended using a mixed-method approach.

She considered revising the entire chapter.
