Welcome to another review on a brand new sampleset of Voxus Virtual Organs, this is Gottfried Thore Drywa and we will talk about the beautiful Kuhn-Organ at the former Saalbau in Essen, Germany, which is now the home of the Essen Philharmonic. Anyone seeing the Philharmonie Essen for the first time often perceives the building as „new and still time-honored at the same time“, this is what describes the Kuhn organ perfectly, too. The instrument was inaugurated in 2004 and yet seems much more inspired by an old French cathedral-organ like the Cavaillé-Coll at Ste Clotilde. Remembering what Charles Tournemire wrote after his inauguration at the restored and enlarged Cavaillé-Coll in 1933, both pipe organs are characterized by a perfectly balanced crescendo and an outstanding value of each and every voice. Featuring quite similar specifications the Kuhn organ delivers a brilliant ensemble effect of a warm, full and still transparent tutti. Even more astonishing are the fonds, flutes and strings. Let’s take a tour through these marvellous sounds by playing the Sposalizio of the Deuxieme Annes de pelegrinage the so called Italienische Pilgerreise by Franz Liszt referring to the painting of the marriage of the Virgin Mary by Raffaelo Santi, now at the Milan Pinacoteca di Brera. The Kuhn pipe organ Samples are of an incredible orchestral richness, which shows, that you do not need necessarily a large pipe organ of more then a 100 voices to achieve what a small but carefully organised ensemble of stops of the highest quality are making you believe sitting in front of a large 19th century orchestra. Let’s take another tour, though, through these inexplicable depths of colours. This was Gottfried Thore Drywa from home office, visit my channel and subscribe, stay healthy and at home with Charles Tournemire Victimae paschali laudes hoping that we all might resurrect soon from this pandemic crisis for good.
