Chongqing's major international airport is gearing up for remarkable expansion with the construction of a new terminal and an additional runway, both expected to become operational in early 2025. These upgrades are set to significantly enhance the airport’s capacity and efficiency, supporting its role as a critical pub in the region's transportation network.

The airport is projected to handle over 50 million passengers by the end of this year, with future upgrades designed to accommodate up to 80 million annually. Alongside passenger traffic, the expansion will enable the airport to manage 1.2 million tonnes of cargo and nearly 600,000 aircraft movements each year, reflecting its growing overcapacity as a logistics and travel center.

In addition to infrastructure development, the airport has introduced new international connections, with services launched or resumed on key routes to cities such as Seattle, Milan, Jakarta, Moscow, and Hanoi.
