Ryu Matrix's 7.5-Year Music Producer Transformation (2017-2025)

March 2025 marked my 7.5-year anniversary for producing EDM originals and remixes, so let’s look back at the journey!

I previously made a video like this to celebrate my 5-year anniversary, but since then a lot has changed! I’ve gotten to do things as a musician that younger me could never have imagined of, such as attaining special achievements and connecting with amazing musicians!
Also, unlike that previous video, I go deeper into the evolution of my techniques and methods in music production, and I feature some more unreleased tunes here.

As for what’s next, of course I’ve still got work to do. Even though I’ve made leaps since my 5-year video, my music overall still does not sound the way I want them to sound.

Some additional notes:
Even though I dabbled with music production as early as 2015, I didn’t start seriously learning it until September 2017, so I mark that as my official starting point.
From 2017 through 2020, more of my focus was on making original songs rather than remixes. I think the main reasons included portfolio building and uncertainties around copyright.
I don’t consider myself to have been a fast learner in music production. Part of that was my only prior knowledge was in percussion, so I had to learn all of the melodic elements from scratch. Another part was balancing this learning with numerous other things I was doing as a young adult.
My main inspiration from day 1 was rhythm game music. I had consumed a lot of those songs growing up, so I naturally took inspiration from them.
