In Russia, In 2017, on a midnight train from Saint Petersburg to Moscow. Kristina from Abney Park’s laptop died. The charging port had split from the motherboard, and the laptop's battery wouldn’t charge.
The band learned about this onstage during sound check. There was 7% battery left, and no way to charge of fix it. All of Kristina's synthesizers were played through this laptop. All the drum tracks, and background orchestrations were on this laptop. Without it, could Abney Park even perform a show?

It was a sold out crowd of over 1,000 people. We were the only performers. Cancelling would financially have ruined the concert promoters.
So Abney Park did something they’d never done before in the history of the band: perform a completely improvised, completely unplugged set. And the result was intimate, and stirring, and wonderful; Abney Park music, void of bells and whistles and electronics.
