🏛️ What’s Special About Dorchester?
Dorchester is the county town of Dorset, famous for its Roman history, vibrant market streets, and literary connections to Thomas Hardy, who based many of his novels on the area. The Dorset Museum houses treasures from the Jurassic Coast, Roman mosaics, and Hardy’s manuscripts, making it a cultural highlight.

🌿 Poundbury – A Royal Town
Just outside Dorchester lies Poundbury, an innovative town built on the principles of traditional architecture, community, and sustainability. Conceived by Prince Charles (now King Charles III), Poundbury blends classical design with modern living, creating one of England’s most unique urban developments.

Maumbury Rings, nestled just south of Dorchester town centre, is a striking Neolithic henge transformed through centuries of history. Originally built around 2500 BC, it was later reshaped into a Roman amphitheatre and repurposed during the English Civil War as an artillery fort. This circular earthwork—85 metres in diameter—offers a rare glimpse into layered British history, all in one atmospheric site.
