In my opinion The Music Man is the greatest musical of all time, in terms of the quality of the music. And the fact that Meredith Willson wrote the book, music, and lyrics, as well as all those song pairs with countermelodies, is astonishing. For example this song has the same chord progression as Seventy-Six Trombones, so they serve as countermelodies to each other. But there are multiple other examples in the show as well. This show also highlights barbershop quartet music, which in my opinion is a highly underrated genre of music. The barbershop quartets in this show are just phenomenal as well.
