How to Crochet The Braided Beanie Free pattern by Crochessica

Below I have a pattern so simple that will help you make this beautiful beanie using any yarn, whether you are using dk weight, sport weight Worsted weight or even heavier yarns, you will very easily be able to make this beanie.

We work the pattern in 3 sections, the Crown, the Body and the Brim of the beanie with the Top Down Method.

Follow the sizing instructions given below to make the pattern for your desired size. Below are 10 sizes pick the size you want to make and follow the sizing guidelines for each of the sections of the beanie.

Abbreviations Used
hdc - Half Double Crochet
ch- chain
sl st- slip stitch
st- stitch
hdc inc - half double crochet increase (work 2sts in the same space)

*Ch1/Ch2 at the beginning of every round does not count as a stitch throughout the pattern
*Working in the third loop for Crown and Body Section
*slip stitch to join round at the end of every round throughout the pattern

🧶Crown Pattern 🧶
Make a magic ring.
Round 1: Ch1,10hdc in the magic ring, (10)
Round 2: Ch1,hdc inc in every st around, (20)
Round 3: Ch1, (1hdc, hdc inc in the next st) repeat this around (30)
Round 4: Ch1,(2hdc, hdc inc in the next st) repeat this around (40) preemie
Round 5: Ch1,(3hdc, hdc inc in the next st) repeat this around (50) newborn
Round 6: Ch1,(4hdc, hdc inc in the next st) repeat this around (60)
Round 7: Ch1,(5hdc, hdc inc in the next st) repeat this around (70)
Round 8: Ch1,(6hdc, hdc inc in the next st) repeat this around (80)
Round 9: Ch1,(7hdc, hdc inc in the next st) repeat this around (90)
Round 10: Ch1,(8hdc, hdc inc in the next st) repeat this around (100)
Round 11: Ch1(9hdc, hdc inc in the next st) repeat this around (110)

Start making the beanie with the Crown and stop when you get the desired measurement of the Crown diameter. Measurement for all sizes listed below👇🏻

🧶Body Pattern 🧶
Ch1, hdc in each st around

Repeat the body pattern round until you get the below measurements

🧶Brim Pattern 🧶
Round 1: Ch2, working in the third loop, dc in every st around
Round 2: Ch2, (fpdc, bpdc) repeat around ending the a bpdc around the last st of the round
Repeat Round 2 of Brim pattern until you get the below measurements 👇🏻

Preemie 4-4.45"
Newborn 4.45-5"
0-6 months 5-5.5"
6-12 months 5.5-6.5"
1-3 Toddler 6.5-6.75"
3-10 Child 6.75-7.5"
Teen / Adult (Small) 7.5-8"
Adult (medium) 8-8.5"
Adult (large) 8.5-9"
Adult (extra large) 9-9.5"

If you wish to give the beanie a slouchy look then add a few rounds either of the body pattern or the Brim pattern totally up to you, if you like a wider Brim add Brim pattern or add the body pattern rounds to make it a bit slouchy.

Fasten off and Weave in the ends.
