Fishing Northern Wisconsin Boat Landings on Clear Lake, Sand Lake, Island Lake and Deer Lake

I decided to fish all the boat landings that I could on my way home, on a cloudy afternoon in Northern Wisconsin, between Rusk County and Sawyer County. I casted for about an hour at each location. My bait of choice were casting spoons, including my new Johnson Silver Minnow weedless casting spoon (which I ended up losing on a snag).

My first stop was Clear Lake. The lay of the land and weeds looked fantastic. But they did not produce any fish for me, any fish that liked the spoons I was casting anyway. I will definitely be visiting Clear Lake again, but with my kayak. The lake looked great. The weather may have played a roll in why the fish were slow.

My second stop was Sand Lake. The weather started getting a little better. This boat landing didn’t produce any fish for me either, but the lay of the land wasn’t great for casting from this boat landing. But, the part of the lake directly across from the boat landing, about a mile or so away, looked AWESOME. I will definitely be adding Sand Lake to my list of lakes to visit with my kayak. I don’t know how busy the lake is on a nice day, but there were quite a few houses around the edge. If I can get on there on a quiet day with not much boat traffic, I’m sure this lake will produce. I truly wish I could cast a mile to the other side.

My next stop was Island Lake. The weather was beautiful at this point. The clouds had moved away and the sun was shining. I still didn’t catch anything from the landing, but this boat landing looked like an amazing spot. Definitely looked like it would produce fish. But maybe live bait or a different type of lure would have enticed a hungry fish to feed. Very beautiful lake. Definitely worth another visit.

My next stop I had to drive through, which was Amacoy Lake in Bruce. There was a tornado that went through Amacoy lake a few days before, and the clean up was still taking place.

My next stop was the Chippewa River, which had been affected by the amount of rain that has been falling in the area. There was no place to fish, the water was fast and high.

My final stop was Deer Lake. I have never fished this lake. I didn’t know if the lake held fish. It is a really nice looking lake with a DAM on the southern end, near the boat landing. This was the only stop that produced a fish. Albeit it was a small Northern Pike, a fish is a fish. I was glad to catch anything, especially on a lake I have never fished.
