N5 Japanese Listening Practice | Everyday Dialogue with Furigana

Welcome to our Japanese learning series! This video is designed for N5-level students who want to practice real-life conversational Japanese.

In this very long dialogue (over 80 sentences!), a foreign businessman, William, buys a train ticket from Tanaka-san. Their conversation is packed with information about train costs, famous food (matcha ice cream!), local transportation, and sightseeing schedules in Kyoto.

Key Vocabulary:
切符[きっぷ] (kippu): Ticket.
片道[かたみち] (katamichi): One-way.
往復[おうふく] (ōfuku): Round trip.
約[やく] (yaku): Approximately, about.
出身[しゅっしん] (shusshin): Origin, hometown.
金閣寺[きんかくじ] (Kinkaku-ji): Kinkaku-ji Temple (The Golden Pavilion).
湯葉[ゆば] (yuba): Tofu skin (a Kyoto specialty).
親切[しんせつ] (shinsetsu): Kind (na-adjective).

Key Grammar:
[Place]まで[Noun]が欲[ほ]しいです ([place] made [noun] ga hoshii desu): "I want [noun] up to [place]." Used here to express wanting a ticket to a destination.
[Time/Distance]ぐらいかかります ([time/distance] gurai kakarimasu): Used to ask or state the amount of time or cost something takes. (e.g., 二時間半ぐらいかかります - It takes about 2.5 hours).
[Noun]は[Adjective]で、[Noun]です ([noun] wa [adjective] de, [noun] desu): The ~de form of a na-adjective (素敵[すてき]な - 素敵[すてき]で) or a noun/copula (です - で) used to link sentences and list reasons or characteristics. (e.g., 金色[きんいろ]で、とても美[うつく]しいです - It's gold and very beautiful).
[Action]てみたいです ([action]te mitai desu): The ~te miru form means "to try to do something." ~tai desu is "want to do." Combined: "I want to try to do [action]." (e.g., 食べてみたいです - I want to try eating it).
