Sitting Bull Falls Loop, Lincoln National Forest, New Mexico

I joined up with One Man's Odyssey and Ultralight Outdoors for a relaxing two night loop near Sitting Bull Falls. One Man's Odyssey planned a route with plenty of water and great views. It was meant to be a trio of father/son teams, but unfortunately my sons became ill right before the trip and could not make it.

The trail ended up being a little more than we expected due to roaring winds ripping through Last Chance Canyon on the first night, and the trails being overgrown with thorns that gripped like velcro and sliced like razor blades. Moreover, I camped on bare rock in a non-freestanding tent, which meant a tricky night of constantly resetting rocks around my stakes to keep them in place while battling the winds.

It was totally worth it in the end for the excellent company in the great outdoors. Plus Sitting Bull Falls was magnificent, I cannot wait to return with my family!
