City Acknowledges Taco Tuesday by Offering Free Tacos
Paterson, NJ—Tuesday, September 16, 2025, Mayor Andre Sayegh will proudly raise the Mexican flag in honor of Mexico’s Independence Day. The Mexican Flag Raising Ceremony will mark the 215th anniversary of Mexico’s struggle for independence, which began on September 16, 1810. This day holds profound pride and historical significance for Mexicans around the world. In Paterson, the ceremony will serve as a way to recognize the invaluable contributions of the city’s Mexican community, one of its most vibrant and visible groups. Mexico Boulevard, a cultural landmark, stands as a daily reminder of the strong and enduring Mexican presence in the city.
The event will showcase a performance by a traditional mariachi band and offer complimentary tacos from Speedy Wey Tacos to the first 100 people in attendance for Taco Tuesday. Presented as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, the celebration highlights the enduring significance of Mexican culture and history, while honoring the shared values of freedom and unity.
