Robert took a trip out to central Washington to study some structures of Sagebrush trees found in the natural climate. Washington is known for its greenery, but central Washington is a very dry desert like climate. Robert looks at these trees for inspiration on how to create bonsai trees.
He looks at how trees grow in the wild. The curvature, the cascades, the lean, the way they chase sunlight, all of that is incorporated in his designs. Trees in the wild are trained by mother nature. Strong winds will create curvature in branches. Snow and ice will cause a branch to droop. The foliar mass is represented by where the sunlight hits first. Roots will grow so the tree can anchor itself onto the rocks. You can learn so much by just carefully studying one tree in the wild.
This is just a brief explanation of ONE style of bonsai art. Where do you all get your inspirations when creating your next bonsai piece?
