Ever since I started bringing my Wharram Catamaran, KIKAPU back to life, I was told of the wonders of La Paz. La Paz is basically the gateway into sailing the Sea of Cortez. With a name meaning "The Peace" it has been just that for me, a peaceful first stop in my first big cruiser hotspot.
The city is beautiful with old architecture, excellent food, and a vibrant night life. La Paz is definitely a place where I could see an anchor getting "stuck". In fact, many people on boats here who have done extensive sailing, came back to call this city home.
Marina de La Paz is an excellent resource for mariners pulling into this port. The marina has the cities only dinghy dock and for 50 pesos/day you have access to RO water, trash and oil disposal, and even mail services. The marina is also incredibly close to the malecone where you can find endless things to do.
Club Cruceros is also based out of Marina de La Paz. They run a daily cruisers net as well as morning coffee Monday-Saturday. I arrived just in time to participate in their first annual Bay Fest since Covid and it was such a joy!
While you can find new things to do everyday after sailing your boat into La Paz, this is a glimpse and what my life is like on an average day here living at anchor.
