This siren is located near McMunn & Yates Building Supplies and is tested on the first Wednesday of the month at 2 PM. Will (‪@njsirens‬) and Chris (‪@SirenDude1003‬) were with me for this test.

I’ve always had the wild idea of recording the sirens in International Falls during their 1 PM test, then hopping over to Fort Frances for their 2 PM test. After months of planning and preparation, I finally did it back in August.

Koochiching County tested on time (thankfully), and we raced across international lines. With more than enough time to spare, we dined at the fine establishment of McDonald’s and proceeded to record the siren from the parking lot.

A Fort Frances resident shared that the town’s sirens once did curfew blasts and even provided some fascinating local lore. We also tuned in to 93.1 FM, which aired a pre-test announcement. Finally, after a phone call and an 18-minute wait, the sirens roared to life.

Once the test concluded, we explored the town, spent money on Canadian merchandise, and faced a four-hour drive through forests, past lakes, and alongside signs warning of moose charging at various objects—until we finally reached Thunder Bay. Thanks for watching!
