So I'm going to show you a really fun look. It's a ponytail with small fishtail braids in the ponytail. We're going to start by putting your hair into a mid-height ponytail. You'll want to tilt your head back, just gather all of your hair right at the crown. By tilting your head back you're avoiding, what I like to call, a saggy bottom. Nobody likes a saggy bottom. Just wrap that with an elastic and tilt your head up and you'll have a nice and tight look here in the back.

Now I normally like to cover the elastic, so what I like to do is take a small section from underneath and wrap it around the base of your pony, around the elastic. This just gives it a nice, clean look. To finish that off, I like to use a french hairpin. It's a little bit looser than a standard bobby pin. Just hooking that in and under. Great, now you're going to split your hair into three smaller sections, clipping each section off and out of the way.

Now you're going to take one of the sections, split it into two strands, and do a standard fishtail braid. Hooking your pointer finger in the outside of each section and crossing it over the middle. You want to make sure that each of these sections are nice and clean and even, otherwise you will lose the fishtail effect. Continue fishtailing this section all the way down. Now I normally like to stop my fishtail a couple of inches from the bottom, just to give it a more modern look.

Now I'm going to do a fishtail on the other sections, as well. So after you finish fishtail braiding each subsection, I normally like to make the fishtail braids a fuller, a little bit messier. But if you want this look to be a little bit more sleek, you can always leave it like this. To make it fuller you just pull on the outside of the fishtail. You can really get in there and mess them up a little bit. The piecier the better they look. The same on the last one.

Now you will take the three subsections and do a regular three strand braid. This look is a really nice alternative to your regular ponytail or high braid. Finish off there, a couple of inches from the bottom and tie it off with elastic. Again, just like with the top I normally like to cover this elastic, as well. You will take a small piece and wrap that around the elastic. Now to mess up the bottom and continue with the whole, full messy look, and there we go. Fishtail braids in a ponytail.
