Galactus Suite | The Fantastic Four: First Steps (Original Soundtrack) by Michael Giacchino

After being bombarded with that gorgeous main theme for around a year now, I feel like people forget Galactus' theme has been known for about as long. And honestly, it's a lot simpler than most Giacchino villain themes; just a three note motif, often repeated over and over until a grand crescendo. On the surface it's unassuming, but Giacchino excels in doing a lot with a little. Galactus' motif gets played in so many fun and interesting ways, whether it be shrill strings in A Galactus Case of the Munchies, or a haunting choral omen in A Walk on the City. This isn't even counting the action tracks, which utilize incredible choral work reminiscent of Giacchino's Lightyear and Star Trek scores. There's a larger than life sound to Galactus' material, and the versatility in which Giacchino reprises it is impressive. Rather than just conveying his size and terror, there's a cosmic inevitably to his theme, this feeling of helplessness and fealty with the way his theme traditionally rises and falls. But by the end of the score, the motif is reprised less and less, opting for these horrifying screams and orchestral clashes to portray Galactus as the monstrous calamity he truly is beneath the grandeur.
