In April 2018, the Kingdom of Swaziland was renamed Kingdom of Eswatini by King Mswati III. The new name means "land of the Swazis". In 1968, Swaziland was granted formal independence from the United Kingdom.

The Mantenga Cultural Village is a must-visit for all visitors in this beautiful country. The traditional African dance and singing is a very uplifting experience. Swazi hospitality is incredible. It is only a short 25-minute drive from Mbabane.

The Umhlanga Reed Dance Festival is a week-long popular cultural event where unmarried virgin Swazi women travel from all over the kingdom. Before the women are allowed to participate in the royal dance, they must undergo a virginity test. As part of the festival, the women help repair the Queen Mother's home at Lobamba. The festival takes place in late August or early September. They have strict rules regarding photography.
