Our First Impressions of the Philippines

We made it to Manila the capital city of the Philippines in Southeast Asia and we will be exploring this new country with my dad who came to join us all the way from Canada for the next two and a half weeks. To get some good first impressions of the Philippines, we decided to walk around Manila and see everything it has to offer.

Our journey started with a tour of Intramuros, a very impressive fortified city dating a few hundreds of years ago when the Spanish came to the Philippines for the very first time. From Fort Santiago to San Agustine Church this is by far one of the most popular tourist attraction in Manila mentioned in every single travel guide.

From there, we crossed the Binondo Intramuros Bridge to Manila's Chinatown where we ate an authentic meal and some street food of course!

The Divisoria Public Market is a must visit during your time in the capital city of the Philippines. This is where you can find everything and anything from food to kitchenware, clothing, car parts and so much more. But even if you don't need anything, simply walking around and experiencing the true hustle and bustle of the market is worth it.

Manila also has many different modes of public transportation which are an integral part of exploring the city. From the famous handmade vehicles called Jeepney to the tricycles and the Metro Rail Transit System (MRTS) making your way around Manila can be quite an adventure. But if this is a little too much for you, the ride-sharing app Grab is easy to use as well.

Finally, after a great night of sleep in our Airbnb we had to go visit the Venice Grand Canal Mall. This is probably the coolest looking mall we have seen around the world.
