TARGETED SPECIES: BLACKFISH (TOG)
Did some Blackfish fishing with my dad on this trip. We headed out to the jetty to see if we can get into some action. We started off slow with a few small ones and then when the tide turned, it was all out instahit. My dad and I had 1 dozen crabs each to see if we can come up with a keeper fish each, and we both caught a keeper at 15 1/2 inches (Would prefer eating 15-17 inchers)... We only fished for 1 hour and a half and we had double digit shorts fish all around us.
Unfortunately, I broke the main gear of my old school Penn reel setting on a fish. It is NOW FIXED and ready to go for the next trip. Coincidentally, It broke the same way 10 years ago. Then I put it out of commission for a good 8 years and started using it for the past 2 years. At that time I used a replacement reel that my dad had. It was a Shimano Reel with 40lb. Braid. If you know me, I am very unfamiliar with using braid for Blackfish/Tog. I had some trouble getting use to braid but I just can't seen to get it. Blackfish fishing is the only fishing I do that I will always use Monofilament line. It is just my preference, so you can use anything you want.
**Saying sorry to the few fish that got hit on the rocks on the way up... Hopefully, you fish will forgive me, the rocks were way too high up and uneven to get down to water level :'( **
