1. Gently reset gauge selector knob such that the micro-adjuster barely touches the knob shaft. Lock the micro-adjuster. Lock the lower block in place while holding the gauge selector knob in the 14g position.
2. From hereon, NEVER slam the gauge selector knob against the micro-adjuster and NEVER turn the micro-adjuster while it is touching the gauge selector knob shaft. Both actions will damage the shaft!
3. Roll a spoke - it will barely be picked up.
4. Leave an Allen key in place as a clock positional reference.
5. Use 1/2 or full turns to increase die pressure - each time locking the micro-adjuster, gently bringing the gauge selector knob up to the 14g position and locking the lower block.
6. WHENEVER you encounter the following:
Rough roll AND/OR
Garbage threads AND/OR
Sudden spike in end thread diameter to 2.28mm, 2.32mm, etc...
You have encountered a die misalignment spot.
7. Use 1/16 turns of the micro-adjuster until you GET PAST the misalignment spot.
8. Continue using 1/4, 1/2 or full turns on the micro-adjuster. It's a JUDGEMENT call by YOU.
9. Continue working your way toward a minimum of 2.10mm on the inside threads and a minimum of 2.22mm on the outside threads.
On Kowa Spoke Cutter #36, I am done when my inside thread diameter is at least 2.10mm and my end thread diameter is 2.26mm WITH a smooth roll.
It is a good idea to tell people that the gauge selector knob is not a toy to be slammed up and down as a form of physically damaging self-entertainment.
It is also a good idea to make it clear to people that the micro-adjuster is to be left untouched once it is properly set.
The micro-adjuster should only be adjusted again when there are clear indications that die wear or other "incidents" necessitate a re-adjustment.
