Special thanks to the great Pittsburgh radio show Rhythm Sweet and Hot for playing a recording of this American Songbook gem Saturday. I had never heard it before, and after doing a little research, found that there was an often omitted second verse. The song with the second verse, originally written as a statement about the high stakes reasons to fight fascism during WW2, speaks volumes about the struggles in America today and what is important. The first stanza is from the first verse, while the rest is the little known second verse. This one song covers racism, religious freedom, immigration, wealth and equality in brilliant brevity. After years away from videos, this seemed the right way to return to sharing.
