MG4 fun factor as a wagon! (MG S5 EV 2025 Review)

While MG’s ZS EV was a watershed Chinese electric for the Australian market, it was underachieving and critically panned. Now its reinvented replacement, the all-new S5 EV, has arrived Down Under to right MG’s electric woes.

Kicking off at $40,490 driveaway, the S5 packs 125kW and 250Nm of single-motor rear drive in regular Excite and high-spec Essence trims, with either 49kWh or bigger 62kWh usable battery sizes. On test here is the flagship Essence 62 ($47,990 D/A). The S5 EV offers up to 425 kilometres (WLTP) on a single charge.

Chasing Cars contributor Nathan Ponchard digs deep into the tech, cabin and driving experience to discover that the new S5 EV is “as good as the old ZS EV was terrible” - a veritable MG4 fun machine served up in wagon form.
