Today on the Monster Hobbies Model Car Garage Show And Tell, I will show you my AMT 1940 Ford Business Coupe Dragster Build In Black and Blue Paint. This is a model car build video that I hope you will enjoy.

In case you are wondering how does the 1940 Ford Business Coupe model car go together, here is a look at a factory stock build I made right out of the box.

This model car was originally built with all the details being painted by a paint brush using Testor's enamel paints. I built this model kit when I was between the ages of 8-12 and then took it apart and repainted it in the same colors using Tamyia Acrylic enamel paints. This model was first introduced in 1960 and was part of the Ford model cars from the AMT Trophy Series model car kits.

I chose to build the AMT 1940 Ford Business Coupe model car kit with the dragster supplied 401 Buick Nailhead V8 and 6-71 GMC Blower. This amazing engine goes together easily and the hoses line up with the holes in the radiator quite well. I painted the engine using Testor's Silver Enamel Paint, Flat Black and Gloss Pink. I also painted the radiator with Gloss Black paint. Exhaust headers came from the AMT 1955 Chevrolet Nomad kit. I love these headers because of the "sweep angle" as they move out to the edges of the fenders.

The upholstery and interior components in my 1940 Ford Business Coupe were painted Flat Black and some parts came from other model cars, the custom 1969 Buick Riviera bucket seat being one of those items. All of this is again applied using a paint brush.

I used the kit supplied factory chrome pieces and touched them up with Silver paint. For the body molding, I used Silver enamel paint.

For the chassis and suspension as well as the running gear, I used Flat Black Testor's paint. I used the chrome dropped front axle on this car because it was cool. My Dad cut a piece of spare plastic and placed it under the rear spring to give more room for the rear tires which were sourced from the parts box. Front Bonneville Salt Flats Moon discs were taken from the AMT 1963 Studebaker Avanti model kit.

The body features the dragster grille blank, removal of the front and rear bumper brackets, removal of trunk trim handle, and decals from various model car kits and some dry transfers from Woodland Scenics Pine Cars.

Overall the model went together quite well with the usual amount of seam line scraping, mold mark removing and all the rest. Someone of moderate skill level can put this model car together quite easily.

Originally this model car kit came out in the early 1960's and was part of the AMT Trophy Series, which contained interchangeable parts with other AMT Trophy Series model car kits. All the engine mounting points and lengths are the same so that a person could swap the optional engines from one Ford to another, giving the builder infinite custom and dragster combinations.
