A detailed look at Duomo di Milano. This video expounds on the details of the portals on the outside as well as the easily missed Tarantasio Dragon sculpture with a brief history of how the mythical creature became a famous Milanese symbol known as the Biscione.
Inside the duomo you’ll see the massive pillars, stained glass windows and the many features inside the cathedral including:
Monument to Saint John the Good
Monument to Gian Giacomo Medici
Sarcophagus of Ottone and Giovanni Visconti
Sarcophagus of Alberto da Intimiano
Meridian Line
Red Porphyry Baptismal
Votive Tables
Largest Pipe Organ in Italy
Santo Chiodo (Holy Nail)
Rite of the Nivola
Saint Bartholomew Flayed
We also take the stairs to the duomo roof referred to as the terraces. We then show the ornate duomo spires up close as well as many different gargoyle, giant, saint and angel statues. You will also get a peek at the famous Madonnina statue that adorns the tallest spire.
Then we embark to the basement of the duomo known as the Archeological Area which features the ruins of 2 basilicas and a baptistery that features remains of the very baptismal pool where Saint Ambrose Baptized Saint Augustine.
