Humanoid robots can operate seamlessly in human-designed spaces, advancing automation. They hold immense potential for warehouses, factories, retail, healthcare, and more. Creating humanoid robots is challenging, demanding vast amounts of data for training. NVIDIA’s latest simulation and generative AI tools are designed to streamline and supercharge model development workflows. He discussed GR00T N1, the robotic foundation model they built and announced March 18th at GTC 2025.
Jan Kautz, VP of Learning & Perception Research at NVIDIA, leads a team advancing AI through visual perception, generative models, efficient deep learning, and foundation models. Their award-winning work, often featured in the media, aims to accelerate humanoid robotics development. Before joining NVIDIA in 2013, Jan was a tenured faculty member at University College London. He holds a degree in Computer Science from the University of Erlangen-Nürnberg (1999), an MMath from the University of Waterloo (1999), received his PhD from the Max-Planck-Institut für Informatik (2003), and worked as a post-doctoral researcher at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (2003-2006).
