For a number of years, Logitech has built itself up as a sometimes almost exclusive manufacturer of control accessories for computers, where the needs of everyone from discerning gamers to those who just want something cheap fast you can connect to the laptop have been satisfied. The MX Master series tries on a slightly narrower group of users: those who want a luxurious product that can also help one work faster and more efficiently.
Before MX Master 3, we got MX Master (which built on Performance Mouse MX from 2009) and MX Master 2S, so the thinking itself is not further new, but it still feels as if Logitech is starting to get closer to the concept they envisioned for ten years ago, because this is a mouse that both looks, sounds and feels animal. It also costs 1199 kroner, so something else would have been less favorable.
Despite a high price and a slightly narrow marketing, the MX Master 2S from 2017 sold as hot wheat bread, and it would be a big surprise if the sequel makes it particularly worse. The mouse has, like its predecessor, an ergonomic shape, a mouse wheel that can be both step-based and free-running (upgraded, from 2S), an additional mouse wheel for horizontal scrolling, a sensor Logitech calls Darkfield Laser (400 to 4000 DPI), support for Logitech Flow as well as extremely fast charging. New in this year's variant is a slightly more aggressive shape, an upgraded mouse wheel and USB-C connector instead of micro-USB for charging.
Updated: Logitech recently launched a new wireless standard called Bolt, which will deliver higher security than previous standards. It is based on Bluetooth but uses better encryption, and the company also promises that it provides up to 8 times lower delay than similar solutions.
