DID HE JUST LACK MENTAL FORTITUDE? The Career of Stefano Modena (1987-1992)

Stefano Modena beat everybody in the 1987 Formula 3000 series, and landed a drive with Brabham after Mansell got injured and Patrese went there early. He's listed as retiring due to a lack of fitness. Which is fine, it's his first race, he was called up last minute and didn't have an off season to prep. Although Keke Rosberg says that's no excuse.

But anyway, several people, including Gary Anderson and Martin Brundle, have said that him being fast was one thing, having the mental capacity to get over bad things happening was something else, and apparently, Modena lacked that. So could that be the reason it all went so wrong for him? Let's have a look.
