Furi is CRIMINALLY Underrated

Modern games are trying to do everything. In 2012 Far Cry 3 to my knowledge popularized the style of gameplay that lets you do everything. You could engage in combat, stealth, crafting, RPG elements, driving, exploring, hunting and of course, listening to the definition of insanity every five minutes. But, Have you ever tried replaying Far Cry 3? Besides its interesting story, what was once a revolutionary title, now felt like a generic, run-of-the-mill Ubisoft game that was just released to capitalise on a well-known brand name. Far Cry 3 feels generic not only because Ubisoft made 20 more of it, but because every other dev and their mother tried to copy it. While some executed this concept better than others, a lot of AAA games failed to excel at anything. They were just ok at everything they tried and the end result in turn was an ok, if unremarkable game. But what if a dev went the completely opposite way, and focused on just one thing? Furi is a hack and slash game, focused only on boss fights. It sold well and got decent reviews at the time, but it feels as if everyone played it and then moved on, never to think about it again. Usually, a game released 8 years ago would have 10s of video essays about it, but if you look up Furi, I doubt there are more than 3 videos discussing it. To further illustrate my point, I doubt a lot of people will choose to click on this video and hey, if you’re one of those that did, today we’ll be looking at why Furi was great, why it was forgotten and why nobody seems to remember it. Let’s check it out.
