iPad Not Charging? How I Fixed This One by Replacing the CD3217B12 Chip (Works on Most USB-C iPads)
In this video I walk you through the full diagnosis and microsoldering repair of an iPad that wouldn't charge at all. The culprit turned out to be a failed CD3217B12 (Tristar) chip, a very common failure on USB-C iPad Pro/Air/Mini models.
This exact method applies to pretty much every USB-C iPad (2018–2024 models), but keep in mind:
❌ This is NOT the only possible charging issue
There are at least 6–8 common failure points (bad port, PPBUS shorts, corroded fuses, PMIC issues, etc.). I show you exactly what to check and in what order so you can diagnose yours properly.
⚠️ This is an advanced microsoldering repair. It looks way easier on camera than it actually is. If you've never done 0201 work or hot-air rework before, you will probably lift pads or kill the board. Seriously practice on dead boards first.
If you want to attempt it yourself, awesome ; I hope this helps you succeed.
If you'd rather not risk it (smart choice for most people), we offer fast, reliable mail-in repair for both consumers and shops worldwide.
