The Evolution of Black Smoke Racing | Diesel Drift Build VS Build

In this episode of Build VS Build, we take a deep dive into the history and evolution of the world's most famous diesel drifting team, ‪@BlackSmokeLtd‬. We will compare their original fame-maker W123 wagon to the latest version of the W203 CDi Monster.

‪@BlackSmokeLtd‬ Racing is known for three kinds of smoking. The tires make white smoke, the exhaust pushes out black Diesel soot and the talent behind the wheel Teemu Peltola most often has a cigarette in his mouth while drifting as well!

This group has a long history since 2009. You will learn about the two most famous of their builds from a technical point of view and in the end, we will give both Black Smoke cars their scoring in the Grumblo criteria of Performance, Looks & Sounds.

Starting with the original Mercedes W123 Wagon that made Black Smoke Racing internet-famous back in the early 2010’s. In the engine bay, we have a Mercedes OM606 engine. This 3-liter straight-6 engine from the 1990’s is low-tech but extremely durable.

After retiring the old wagon’s chassis, Black Smoke Racing built a newer W203 chassis in 2013 with the same engine model. During the years they tested all kinds of turbos, nitrous, compound charging, and black magic to be competitive with the OM606 platform. But the real leap forward came with the advent of their first CDi common rail injection engine in 2016. The W203 body got facelifted with new era Mercedes looks and an OM648 3.2 liter straight-6 from a 2000’s Mercedes E- and S-class diesel cars replaced the old mechanical 606.
