MANILA — The Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA) said Wednesday evening that it is expecting a slight drop in the surge of travelers starting on Maundy Thursday.
This, after the agency recorded around 140,000 travelers on Tuesday (April 15) both for domestic and international, and departure and arrival travels.
"Ang umaalis na marami kahapon (April 15) [at] sa ngayon din ay domestic. Kahapon naka 40,000 ata ang umalis patungong mga probinsya at 38,000 naman 'yung umalis papuntang ibang bansa," MIAA General Manager Eric Ines said in an interview with TeleRadyo Serbisyo's Johnson Ikwento Mo.
The official added that while they are expecting a surge drop in the upcoming days, the number of travelers during 2024's Holy Week was fewer than what they are observing this year.
"Dumami ngayon kung ikukumpara mo last year. Noong Holy Week last year parang mas mababa ng kaunti. Tumaas ngayon e ng about 15 percent, ayon sa NNIC (New NAIA Infra Corp.)," Ines said.
He, however, assured travelers that even with the increase in this year's foot traffic, the facilities of the airport are still up to par with the traveling population.
