Dilermando Reis (Guaratinguetá, SP, Brasil - 1916-1977) was one of the first Brazilian "guitar heroes" of the 20th century. He is one of the foundation stones concerning the guitar literature in the South American country. A major representative of the 'seresta' culture and its aesthetics, his work spans from compositions, arrangements, reelaborations to collaborations, such as with the singer Francisco Petrônio.
Connecting romantic influences, with a passionate lyricism and the seresta approach, "Eterna Saudade", or eternal longing (in a free translation), is drawn from a melodic passage from Chopin's Piano Concerto, and later developed into a "valse brillante", a common subgenre of the late-19th century repertoire, established by Chopin.
