Glastonbury Carnival 2019

The Somerset Carnivals are widely regarded as the largest illuminate processions in the UK and Europe. There are various organised Somerset carnivals every year, some with over a hundred brilliantly lit and decorated carts, and walking entries and exotically dressed performers from the local carnival clubs. The processions of illuminated floats are part of an ancient tradition, which stretches back as far as the 1600's when many parts of Somerset commemorated the Gunpowder plot. The floats can be huge, over 50 feet long and covered in thousands of light bulbs. Dwarfing the streets, these magnificent edifices draw awe and wonder from the crowds and are the results of months of work in secret by the Carnival Clubs.
