The VOR RWY 18 instrument approach does NOT have a DME ARC. I created a fake 20 DME ARC for this video, to join the Initial Approach Fix for the KTYQ VOR Rwy 18 non-precision instrument approach. The actual approach plate used is displayed during the video.
This video was created with the intention of helping people visualize the approach on the HSI, by using the CDI needle and the VOR bearing needle at the same time. Also to show how a DME ARC is flown. (Although I could have flown the 20 DME ARC a bit better)
Imagine the center of the HSI represents the VOR. The CDI represents the inbound track as portrayed on the published approach plate. The VOR bearing needle (tail of the needle) represents the aircrafts current position in relation to the inbound or outbound approach leg as it flys around the fake 20 DME arc.
If you have difficulty visualizing it, I can create additional videos with symbols and logos placed on top of the HSI. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact me through the social media links below or my website ashleywincer.com Thanks..
