Well, I have a 13’6” kayak with a truck bed that’s 6’6” long… those numbers don’t add up. Shout out to the folks at Malone Auto Racks, who sent out one of their Axis Angler Bed Extenders to remedy the situation.
This bed extender retails for $240, but they sent it out for me to test for free. I had considered buying a couple options I found on Amazon and Harbor Freight that were in the $50-$60 range; one was pretty similar to this, but lacked the roller bar.
*I’ve used this system to haul and launch my boat since making this video. And that roller bar makes all the difference with “Sherbie” here, my 158-pound Old Town Sportsman AutoPilot 136.
I was able to back right down to the water, unstrap the boat and then roll it right off the truck and into the water. I set the back down, walked around and lifted the front off the roller and then set it down. Doing this without the roller would have scuffed the boat up, if not on the first trip then definitely over time.
What do you use to haul your kayak?
