CERB is over: What happens next?

After providing millions of Canadians with financial relief since the beginning of the coronavirus pandemic, the Canadian Emergency Recovery Benefit (CERB) came to an end on Sept. 27.

The majority of people who were on the federal income assistance program will transition to Employment Insurance.

Whether people need to apply for EI depends on where they applied for CERB.

For those receiving it through Service Canada, the transition to EI should be automatic. But those receiving CERB through the Canadian Revenue Agency will have to apply.
