Autonomous Sparse-Aperture Multibeam Echo Sounder

A collaborative fleet of about 20 autonomous surface vessels forms a large sonar array that holds the potential to map the seabed at 50 times the coverage rate of an underwater vehicle and 100 times the resolution of a surface vessel. This technology was recognized with a 2024 R&D 100 Award.
