⛱️ Theologos is a mountain village located in the interior of the island. It was once the capital of the island.
The first mentions of the settlement appeared as early as 1287. In 1479, Turkish settlers settled here.
In the 14th century, the place was threatened by pirate attacks.
You can reach the village from the resort of Potos, which was once the port of Theologos.
From the local square there is a beautiful view of Kufokastaro, which the locals claim was the site of a Frankish castle. Chatzegeorgis Mertaxas, the leader of the uprising against the Turks in 1821, lived in one of the houses here.
⛱️ You will also find nice little churches here - Agia Paraskevi with wall paintings, a carved wooden column and a tall bell tower, as well as the Metropolitan Church of Agios Dimitrions with the bishop's throne and pulpit from 1870 or the Church of Panagia from 1870.
