U.S. aircraft and their brave crews were pivotal in helping the allies win victory in World War II. Among the many iconic planes from this period, we were able to film the B-17 Flying Fortress, the B-24 Liberator, the B-25 Mitchell, the P-51 Mustang and TBF Avenger. All of which were still flying. With ingenuity and an artisan’s skill, American Aero Services in New Smyrna Beach, FL. is just one shop keeping these majestic warbirds in the air and helping preserve an important part of American history. It was a privilege meeting many WWII veterans around the shop, recording their stories and of course, documenting aircraft restoration and maintenance by the fabulous team at American Aero Services.
Since the film was first produced in 2015, three of our featured veterans have passed away. Colonel Hugh Maxwell, Jr. was 101. Sam Mastergiacomo and Joe Garber have also passed. I thank them for their amazing stories and service to our nation.
In October 2019, the B-17 “Nine-O-Nine” was tragically lost in a devastating accident that took the lives of 7 crew and passengers. Pilot “Mac” McCauley and “Nine-O-Nine” are featured in this film. Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the victims and their families.
