“When I was asked to choose a theme for this film, I knew that I wanted it to be ‘Stillness’. Maybe an unusual word to describe what l love about climbing - a sport that is, after all, the pursuit of movement.
For me, stillness in climbing isn’t the absence of movement, but the luxury of focus, a clear goal and the simple obligation to be present.
If you’re listening to eight stations of the radio, all at once, there’s fewer things more alluring than getting to be a tourist in the land of quiet. Climbing has always had a power to connect me to that sense of quiet and to remind me that the radio has a volume dial if I know where to look - in this case, towards a landscape of sandstone boulders in the Western USA.” - Hannah Morris
