A spring storm batters the cotswold cottage, I try tiling a shower for the first time… and we find something buried under the dirt.

This week, it’s back up on the roof to strip more of the 500-year-old thatch — a dusty, satisfying, slightly terrifying job. On a separate day, a full-blown storm puts our scaffolding to the test.
