Before the partition of India, Bahawalpur was among the 584 princely states.
Bahawalpur is a city in Punjab, Pakistan. It is one of the ten largest cities in Pakistan and the sixth most populous city in Punjab. Bahawalpur is the capital of Bahawalpur Division. Founded in 1748 by Nawab Bahawal Khan I , Bahawalpur was the capital of the erstwhile state of Bahawalpur, ruled by the Abbasid dynasty of Nawabs until 1955. The city is located on the edge of the Cholistan desert, and serves as the gateway to the nearby Lal Sohanra National Park.
