Silver Springs - Reno, Nevada

Silver Springs is a rural community in Northern Nevada about 45 minutes east of Reno and Sparks. The town resides near the Carson River that flows into the beautiful Lahontan Reservoir. Early army and farmer settlers favored the area, leading to the notable community of Fort Churchill and neighboring Buckland Station. Today, you can tour the ruins of Fort Churchill at the Fort Churchill State Historic Park, as well as Buckland Station. Settlers constructed Fort Churchill in 1861 to protect early settlers and run the famous Pony Express. Samuel Buckland settled only a mile-and-a-half away in 1858. His farm and toll bridge supplied and served Fort Churchill. Buckland Station was built in 1870 using materials from the deserted Fort Churchill. The former home of the Buckland family still stands providing a glimpse into early pioneer life.

Silver Springs has evolved into an industrial area and includes the Tahoe Reno Industrial Center. This center is home to the Tesla Giga-factory surrounded by numerous other warehouses and distribution centers. The Silver Springs Airport was constructed by the United States Army Air Force in 1942 and is still in operation today.

Fernley is a mere 15 minutes from remote Silver Springs, providing more nearby recreational areas for Silver Springs residents. Fernley Out of Town Park includes baseball and softball fields, soccer fields, tennis courts, and a rodeo arena. Both Out of Town Dog Park and Green Valley Dog Park are excellent facilities to enjoy a day with your pets. Fernley Swimming Pool is accessible year-round with an indoor swimming pool plus the outdoor Splash Park as an additional summer treat. Fernley BMX Track has an active community of bikers in the area and hosts various Sunday races. You’ll find kids practicing at the track throughout the week, preparing for the next state qualifier race.

The Silverado Casino and Ranch House Restaurant are popular Fernley destinations that offer a range of gaming and dining activities. The Fernley Nugget is another casino located in Fernley and has a beloved Black Bear Diner attached to the casino. Silver Springs has its own Nugget Casino a little more convenient to the community. The casino offers similar gaming options as the Fernley Nugget ranging from table games to live keno.

Students begin their education at Silver Stage Elementary School, a member of the Lyon County School District. The school is next to the Silver Stage County Library and the Boys & Girls Club of America. Silver Stage Elementary School shares a parking lot with SIlver Stage Middle School, making a seamless transition from elementary to middle school in a mixed environment. Across the street is Silver Stage High School, home of the Nighthawks.
