Pitcher Plant Propagation - Watch How I Split Mine The Natural Way! 🪴💧

Learn simple pitcher plant propagation by watching me split my Nepenthes spp. (common names: monkey cups, tropical pitcher plants) that had two growth points! 🌱✂️ I use their natural bog environment method to ensure successful division.

In this video, I show you how to successfully split a plant with multiple growth points. Using just a knife, I carefully divide it into two separate specimens, preserving roots where possible and creating the perfect setup for the divisions to thrive.

✨ INTERESTING FACT ✨ Nepenthes naturally grow in nutrient-poor bog environments where they rely on capturing insects for nutrition rather than absorbing nutrients through their roots. This is why they thrive in moss and water rather than traditional soil.

For successful care, use sphagnum moss and lava rocks/clay pebbles instead of organic soil. Keep water levels high enough to touch the moss, creating constant moisture just like their natural habitat. Never add fertilizer as these plants evolved in nutrient-poor environments, and excess nutrients can actually kill them.
⚠ IMPORTANT: Most pitcher plants are toxic to pets if consumed. Keep these fascinating carnivorous plants away from curious animals.
