Seguin Board A - Mathematics - Montessori

In this video we show you how to present Seguin Board A which is part of the Montessori Childrens House, Mathematics Curriculum.

PRESENTATION

• For this activity you need one set of coloured beads, 9 ten bars and a mat.
• This is teaching them the names 10 to 19 with quantities associated with them.
Period 1:
• You take three ten bars and the coloured 1 bead bar, the coloured 2 bead bar.
• Place the ten bar in front of the child and say this is the “ten”, put the ten bar to the side and then bring out another ten bar, to the right side of the ten bar put the red one bar
• You say “10 and 1 are called eleven”, repeat this name several times.
• Place the ten bar and the one bar to the side, place the last ten bar in front of your child, to the right place the coloured number two bar and say,” ten and two are called twelve, repeat the name several times
• Repeat this as often as the child needs.
Period 2:
• Place the three quantities in front of the child, ask him questions, which is eleven, point to twelve pass me eleven, etc repeat this as often as necessary.
Period 3
• Put one quantity in front of your child and ask them to name it, when they have done so count the beads to show that is correct.
• Continue to do this with the next quantity of beads.
• As you progress with this activity you keep introducing them two new numbers and always adding on the ones already learnt.
• Work on this until your child and learnt all the sequences.
