Jul 04, 2025 Sachet Embroidery with “Danish Small Whitework Hedebo” by X-Knowledge [Part 5]

[Project Notes]
This is my first ever attempt to do any Hedebo embroidery, or Danish whitework! I’ve bought this book a while ago, I was so fascinated by the daintiness of the designs. Before I started the embroidery process in this project, I’ve referenced 2 other Hedebo books (“Whitework accessories for everyday life by Seiko Nakano” & “Whitework Embroidery by Ayako Otsuka”) for basic techniques, different images and tips. In this project, I’m kick starting with the Udklipshedebo or cut work techinique in my Whitework journey.

[Material]
DMC Coton a Broder No.25 BLANC, each piece of thread used throughout the project is cut at 60cm long

[Embroidery journal]
1. (Jun 24, 2025 Danish Whitework Part 1)
Satin stitches: While working on the satin stitches of the petal, I find it easier to align the direction of the stitches with the weft or warp of the fabric. But since the pattern of the book indicates horizontal lines across the petal, so I’ve followed the instructions but I’m not too happy with the results.

2. (Jun 26, 2025 Danish Whitework Part 2)
Cutwork: In my practice in the video, it would be nicer if the spacing between the buttonhole stitches were closer to each other, preferably 1mm apart, and also, 2-3mm from the opening edge. In addition, it is better to keep the cut fabric flat on the back while making the buttonhole stitches.
Scallop: In the video, I’ve made too many buttonhole stitches over the core threads and the scallop did not lie flat

3. (Jul 01, 2025 Danish Whitework Part 4)
Ladder: it turns out that it looks nicer if the height of the horizontal ladder is kept short to the point which is close to the baseline
Buttonhole stitching above ladder: no more than 2 buttonhole stitches should be made in each ladder section

[Embroidery Time, Relaxing Time]

I'm setting up this channel to do some embroidery to relax and clear my mind from everyday chores and chaos. At the same time, I'd like to have some companionship while working with both of my hands (or both sides of my brain) on the beautiful colors and warm fiber textures.

The amazing thing of working on embroidery is that no one can go wrong with it, as long as some attention is given while working on it. And the best part is that the craftsmanship will get better and better each time after each stitch is being made.
