BLIZZARD Survival – my SCARIEST night ever in the van. Trapped and alone in a violent SNOW STORM. Solo Winter Van Life Camping in Extreme Weather.
This became the most terrifying night I’ve ever spent in the van. A brutal, severe tornado-like blizzard slammed into the high Arctic with full whiteout conditions, hurricane-force winds, and freezing temperatures that pushed everything to the limit. I was lucky and prepared, somewhat safely camped by a remote mountain plow station — the only thing between me and disaster.
Even with snow blasting into the engine bay and whiteout zero visibility outside, my tiny off-grid cabin on wheels held up. I again tested how to stay warm and survive inside a van during extreme winter weather — with heater running on full all night. Heavy machinery was needed to clear the snow. I managed to get cozy cooking quesadillas while watching the blizzard raging the trucks and cars outside. Very cozy and relaxing!
This is a raw, harsh episode in my Arctic tour — but still, I try to stay cozy, grounded, and calm through the storm. The contrast between chaos outside and peace inside is what I love about winter van life.
This is solo Arctic van life. Real, unfiltered.
No build tour, Just me, my van, and the wild north.

BLIZZARD Survival, my SCARIEST night in the van trapped in extreme SNOW STORM. Winter Van Life Solo Camping.
This turned out to be the scariest night have experienced in the van, the severe tornado beast of a blizzard reached insane hurricane force winds with a full snow storm whiteout. I was trapped and hunkering down by the plow station where I had luckily camped my van in a relatively safe spot, a truck camper would probably have struggled, but my tiny cabin on wheels performed remarkably and even through extreme freezing temperatures and an an emergency with the engine bay being filled with snow, I was able to test how to stay warm in a van in extreme winter weather and stay cozy, yet again. What an adventure! The heavy machinery was brought out by the plow crew to clear snow in the whiteout and I was able to watch from inside my no-build luxury van. It was confirmed by the plow truck crew that winds had indeed reached hurricane force and staying in the mountains would have been a trap that would not have seen me rescued and recovered for days. Several people camped in the their cars with the engine running through the night because they did not know the disastrous forecast before trying to cross the mountain. After this I am longing for the Heavy rain camping of summer and spring.
This is a specially brutal episode for me and the van, but yet I always strive to stay cozy with my vanlife winter camping & cooking in blizzards, snow storms and hurricanes.
