Howard Hughes Spruce Goose VIP Tour of the World's Largest Airplane - The Hercules H-4 Spruce Goose, Evergreen Aviation & Space Museum. Howard Hughes and Hughes aircraft built the world's largest airplane in 1947 known as the Hercules H-4 or Spruce Goose. The aircraft received its nickname the Spruce Goose since it was made out of wood. The wingspan is as big as a football field with eight large engines. The seaplane flew once during some test run trails with Howard Hughes at the controls off long Beach California when it flew around 70 feet off the water for approximately a minute. This aircraft played a huge role in The Aviator movie.
After the historic flight, the aircraft went into storage and later became a tourist attraction next to the Queen Mary in Long Beach California. it was later decided to close the attraction and Evergreen Aviation Museum in McMinnville Oregon agreed to display the aircraft in Oregon where it is currently available to tour.
This video takes you on a VIP tour of the cockpit and flight deck walkthrough. See where history was made and little has changed in this historic and one of a kind aircraft. As amazing airplane especially considering it was built in the 1940's. The Spruce Goose or H-4 Hercules will always have its place in history and hopefully a permanent home at the Evergreen Aviation and Space Museum in McMinnville Oregon.
