Breast Augmentation Frequently Asked Questions
This video answers questions such as:
What makes a good candidate?
What should you expect during a consultation?
What's the difference between silicone and saline implants?
How long is the procedure?
How is the procedure performed?
How long is the recovery process?
Breast augmentation is one of the most common procedures performed by plastic surgeons. Women may choose to undergo breast augmentation because of breasts that are felt to be under-developed, differences in breast size, or changes after pregnancy or breast-feeding. Some women may be happy with their breasts but just want them made fuller. Often after weight loss, aging, or childbirth, a woman's breast volume and shape may change. Augmentation can be performed with either saline or silicone implants.
The procedure takes approximately 1.5 hours and is done under general anesthesia. There are typically 3 methods to perform the breast lift. These include the inframmamary (under the breast), periareolar (around the nipple), and the transaxillary (armpit) incisions. Implants are placed under the muscle to reduce chances of infection and better long term results. Breast shape continues to improve and the implants will gradually descend for the first few months after surgery.
